Emergency landing selfies? Twilight actor live tweets panic on plane
Jackson Rathbone tweeted that Flight 1416 from California to Texas was filled with smoke and would have to make an emergency
American star Jackson Rathbone on Thursday live-tweeted the ordeal of being on a flight across the United States with his wife and young son when the plane’s engine “exploded” and the pilots were forced to make an emergency landing.
Rathbone, best known for his role playing Jasper Hale in The Twilight Saga, tweeted that JetBlue Flight 1416 from California to Texas had to turn back after its “right engine exploded” and “the cabin filled with smoke.”
Video footage emerged on the internet later showing a smoke-filled cabin and passengers wearing oxygen masks, which according to Rathbone, did not deploy at first.
“We were told to brace as we careened sharply back towards land. Guided by our pilot, and I believe our guardian angels, we landed safely,” he said. He then grabbed his son and jumped down the inflated ramp. “We left all our personal effects on board. Who cares. We were alive,” he added. “We’re safe. I’m grateful.”
After the landing, four people needed medical attention, including one passenger who suffered an injury coming down the emergency slide
However, Rathbone and his family was unharmed and later tweeted that he was celebrating his “near-death experience” with wine and champagne.
