With a combined age of 194, a British couple are set to become the world’s oldest newlyweds when they marry this summer, UK paper the Daily Mail reported on Friday.

George Kirby, who will also be the oldest ever groom at the age of 103, proposed to Doreen Luckie, 91, on Valentine’s Day this year after being together since 1988.

“I suppose it’s about time, really,” Kirby said. “I definitely don’t feel my age. Doreen keeps me young.”

"I did'nt get down on one knee becuase I wouldn't have been able to get back up."

This will be the former boxer’s third marriage and the couple between them have 7 children, 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Kirby’s son and best man, 63-year-old Neil, said “We’ve adopted Doreen as our mum and we’re delighted that she’s going to become a Kirby.”

“We’re thrilled that they are going to get married in front of all their proud friends and family,” he added.

The wedding, set for June 13, will smash the previous record for a married couple with a combined age of 188 years set in 2013.

However when asked about his matrimonial motivations, Kirby said: “We’re not doing it for the record, we’re getting married because we’re in love and it seems like the right thing to do.”
