UAE man and son convicted over stash of hash
Abu Dhabi man jailed for possession of hashish when his son was arrested for chaos in a restaurant whilst under the influence
An Emirati man and his 15-year-old son have been found guilty of possession of hashish by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court.
The teenage boy admitted to having been an addict for over 2 years after being caught by the police for smashing up a restaurant whilst under the influence of the drug in January this year.
The teenage boy caused chaos in a restaurant in Abu Dhabi when he complained that he had to wait for his food. When the employees of the restaurant could not calm the boy down they called the police.
Whilst in custody of the police a urine sample was taken and the boy admitted to having smoked hashish.
“The boy said he started using hashish at the age of 13, after seeing his father smoking. He said he used to sneak in there while his father was away and smoke some hash he left there,” the prosecutor told 7Days.
The father was arrested when the police searched their home and found a stash of the drug. The father confessed to being an addict, but was shocked to hear about his son’s smoking habits.
The father has been sentenced to 5 years in jail, whilst the son, as a minor, has been sentenced to a rehab facility.
