Ex-boyfriend charged with shooting Turkish talent show hopeful
Multu Kaya was shot by her ex-boyfriend from the window of her room while rehearsing for the show at home
The ex-boyfriend of a Turkish talent show participant was charged this week after he shot her in the head in her own home.
Multu Kaya was shot by her ex-boyfriend from the window of her room while rehearsing for the show at home and is currently in intensive care, the Independent reported.
“When [the victim and her sister] didn’t open the window, he broke it, drew the curtain and shot my girl in the head,” her father told BBC Turkish.
The 19-year-old Turkish woman was competing in a national televised song contest and is in a critical condition in hospital, reports said.
Kaya, who is from the conservative region of Diyarbakir in the Kurdish-majority southeast of Turkey, had according to Turkish press reports previously received death threats for appearing on the talent show.
Kaya was shot while she was at her home in the Ergani district of Diyarbakir province in the early hours of Monday, the Dogan news agency reported. She is now in intensive care in Diyarbakir.
