British MP revealed as naked model in U.S. Dove advert
A shower gel advert is being aired in America with a newly elected British MP as the model
A British lawmaker has been revealed as the model in an advert for Dove shower gel on American television.
The commercial, which features Conservative MP for Plymouth Johnny Mercer, shows the former army captain soaping himself in the shower, British daily The Independent reported.
The newly appointed British MP, who was elected in May's general election, was filmed for the advert in London before he was elected. But it was filmed after he was chosen to contest the parliamentary seat for Plymouth Moor View in Devon.
According to The Independent, Dove appealed for members of the military to appear in their advert, and contacted Mercer who was an army captain, who was deployed in Afghanistan during his military career.
In an interview with the Plymouth Herald, he said: “When they asked me, I thought why not? It will be a laugh. It was really fun." He added that it was a great way to spend time with his family after leaving the armed forces.
At point in the advert the 38-year-old scoops up his six-year-old daughter, Amalie, with one of his well-toned arms.
In preparation for the role, the army veteran, had to shave his chest and spent hours in the shower to enable camera crews to capture the best footage.
Although a series of adverts have been planned, he said he hoped it would be quickly forgotten.
