#TwitterIsTen: The 10 greatest celebrity scandals ever tweeted
Celebrities, please never change – here's to 10 more years of drama
If you’re an avid Twitter user, you will already know by now that the social micro-blogging site is celebrating ten years in existence today. It was in March 2006 that co-founders Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone and Evan Williams began work on a little known project – known as ‘twttr’ back then – and the rest, as they say, is history. The very first tweet was produced by Dorsey on March 21, 2006 at 9:50pm, the quite mundane statement: “Just setting up my twttr”.
But some of the best tweets have been far from boring since then. The social network has provided a platform for the world’s biggest celebrities to provide words of wisdom, share pictures, or just argue with others. And boy, some sure do know how to rant.
So to celebrate 10 years of Twitter, we bring you the 10 biggest celebrity scandals to have emerged thanks to the website.
1) Kanye West
Are you really surprised that we’re starting our list off with Yeezus? After all, he is known for his multitude of Twitter rants that even wife Kim Kardashian has expressed worry over his outbursts.
Our favorite one so far is when he flipped over a comment made by Wiz Khalifa about West’s new album. The ‘Waves’ rapper proceed to burst into a Twitter tirade that saw him diss Khalifa, even making crude references to his ex-wife Amber Rose.
Our advice? Lay off the tweeting, Kanye.

2) Taylor Swift vs. Nicki Minaj
Following the 2015 MTV VMA nomination announcements, Minaj took to Twitter to vent her frustration for ‘Anaconda’ not being nominated for video of the year, saying that: “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.”
While her tweet was about the industry in general, many assumed Minaj was taking a dig at Taylor Swift, whose music video for Bad Blood received a nomination.
The singer responded saying: “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.”
Minaj responded with: “U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much.”
3) Taylor Swift vs. Katy Perry
Interestingly, the feud between Minaj and Swift didn’t stop there. Katy Perry – who is rumored to be a sworn enemy of Swift – offered her two cents, posting: “Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably [sic] capitalises on the take down of a woman…”
The tweet of course was also in reference to Swift’s then latest single, ‘Bad Blood’, a song that is reportedly about Perry.
But this isn’t the first time Perry has hit out against Tay Tay. The ‘Roar’ singer once tweeted: “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing...”, which is apparently about her frenemy.
4) Courtney Love
The female version of Kanye West is no doubt musician Courtney Love. She’s had her fair share of Twitter tirades. However, her most controversial was in April 2011 when she implied that ex-Nirvana member Dave Grohl had made a pass at her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.
“Unfortunately Courtney is on another hateful twitter rant,” Grohl said in the New York Daily News. “These new accusations are upsetting, offensive and absolutely untrue.”
Cobain said in a statement: “I have never been approached by Dave Grohl in more than a platonic way. Twitter should ban my mother.”
5) Louis Tomlinson vs. Zayn Malik
Nearly the entire female teenage population lost it on Twitter when it was announced that Zayn Malik had quit One Direction. But that wasn’t the biggest boy band blowout of 2015 – it was in fact a moment between Malik and band mate Louis Tomlinson.
It started when Tomlinson hit out at his ex-colleague online, making it very clear that the departure wasn’t on good terms.
Malik responded by tweeting: ”Remember when you had a life and stopped making b***** comments about mine?” MEOW!
6) Perez Hilton vs. Miley Cyrus
He’s one of the most polarizing figures in the celebrity blogging industry, so it’s hardly surprising that Perez Hilton has fallen out with a number of celebs.
One of the biggest backlashes of his career came in 2010 when he shared a somewhat nude picture of Miley Cyrus.
“If you are easily offended, do NOT click here. Oh, Miley! Warning: truly not for the easily offended!” he posted.
He later deleted the pic after users suggested that that the photograph in questions was potentially illegal, due to Cyrus being a minor (17) at the time.
7) Perez Hilton vs. will.i.am
Another one involving Hilton was quite bizarre. In a string of tweets in 2009, Hilton claimed he had been attacked by Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am at an event. Instead of calling 911, he took to Twitter:
“I was assaulted by will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas and his security guards. I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke.”
Will.i.am, who has denied the attack, later said: “I hit you Perez? Come on dude! I didn't hit you. Instead of calling police, you Twittered [sic] that I assaulted you. Sounds like somebody wants mad attention.”
8) Giuliana Rancic vs. Kelly Osbourne
In a scandal that was arguably blown out of proportion, the former ‘Fashion Police’ co-hosts butted heads after Rancic made an insulting comment about Zendaya’s red carpet dreadlocks.
While Zendaya posted a response on Instagram, and Rancic issued an apology, Osbourne decided to add fuel to the flames it seems by tweeting to clear her name.
“I do not condone racism so as a result of this I’m seriously questioning staying on the show!”
9) Ashton Kutcher
In 2009, he became the first person to have over 1 million followers, but even popular tweeps sometimes don’t know what they’re doing.
The actor came under fire after taking to twitter to criticize the sacking of Penn State football coach Joe Paterno:
“How do you fire Jo Pa? As a Hawkeye fan I find it in poor taste.”
However, little did he realize that Paterno was fired over revelations of sex abuse in the school’s athletic program.
Ashton later said: “As of immediately I will stop tweeting until I find a way to properly manage this feed.”
Lesson: Get your facts straight before you tweet.
10) Rob Kardashian vs. Rita Ora
And finally, it’s hard to beat a Kardashian when it comes to drama. Kim, Khloe and the rest of the clan have been involved in spats with other celebrities and even with each other, but the most disastrous rant was courtesy of Rob Kardashian who publicly bashed ex Rita Ora, claiming she cheated on him with no less than 20 other men.
It is rumored she responded but the tweet was immediately taken down.
