Media speculates over Lindsay Lohan ‘converting to Islam’

Rumors began swirling after Lohan, 27, was pictured last year holding an English translation of the Quran

Media reports have speculated that Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan - whose career has been marred by stories of drug use and drink driving offences - is considering whether to convert to Islam.

Rumors began swirling after Lohan, 27, was pictured last year holding an English translation of the Quran.

In an interview with British tabloid The Sun published on Wednesday, Lohan said that she is exploring the Muslim faith.

“I’m a very spiritual person… America has portrayed holding a Quran in such a different way to what it actually is,” she added.

According to The Sun, she has not yet finished reading her way through the entire book. “It takes so long,” Lohan said.

She also told The Sun on Wednesday that her sister, Ali Lohan, had converted to Buddhism.

Lohan, who is Catholic-born, began her career as a child fashion model at the age of three.

‘Simply education’

Her teenage years saw her star in a string of hit movies, including 2003’s Freaky Friday, followed by 2004 hit Mean Girls, which brought her widespread fame.

By her 20s, tabloid stories frequently focused on Lohan, who had stints in rehab and jail after a string of drug and drink driving incidents.

Later on Wednesday, following widespread media attention from US, British and Australian media outlets, Lindsay Lohan’s spokesperson issued a statement.

“Lindsay has always been very spiritual and is open to exploring all religions and beliefs. She is simply educating herself on other people’s beliefs,” the statement said.

She is reportedly engaged to Egor Tarabasov, the son of a Russian tycoon. He is said to be seven years her junior.

Lohan was pictured a day earlier leaving a New York hotel with her fiancé – and a sparkling emerald ring on her finger.

Media reports suggest that the two have been together for eight months.
