Chinese woman rips out hair in ‘rotating corn challenge’ mishap

The clip shows the eye-watering moment

Published: Updated:

A cringe-worthy video released Sunday shows the moment a woman in China ripped off a large chunk of hair in a catastrophic attempt to take part in a new internet craze.

The woman was taking part in a stunt known as the “corn drill challenge,” which sees people trying to eat corn from a high-speed rotating power drill.

Just seconds after the drill is turned on, the woman’s long hair gets caught in the mechanism. Her friend holding the drill quickly turns it off, but not before it rips a large chunk of hair from her scalp.

The woman, who appears to be a slight state of shock, initially shows little reaction to the accident.

In a later clip, she is shown next to someone wiping her large bald patch with what appears to be disinfectant.

Hairy hope

The unfortunate woman may have to be patient while waiting for her hair to grow back. A 2005 study by the International Journal of Dermatology showed that Asian respondents grew around 15 centimeters of hair per year.
