Refugee throws children out window ‘because wife wants freedom’
A Syrian asylum seeker in Germany is on trial for throwing his children out of a window because he disliked his wife’s desire for ‘freedom’
A Syrian asylum seeker is on trial for throwing his three children out of a first floor window in Germany, allegedly because he disliked his wife’s desire to enjoy the same freedoms as German women.
The 36-year-old refugee has been accused of attempted murder after his two daughters and son were injured at the asylum center near the western city of Bonn where the family lived, German daily The Local reported earlier this week.
The report said police arrived at the scene in February to find both his seven-year-old daughter and five-year-old son suffering broken bones and skull fractures from the fall. While the one-year-old baby girl was left with bruising and a liver contusion after landing on her brother.
Prosecutors said the suspect admitted to throwing the children because he could not accept that his wife “no longer wished to accept the roles they had at home, and did not want to put up with everything he wanted anymore” after fleeing to Europe from war-torn Syria.
In a similar incident, the suspect had previously been put under a 10-day restraining order after attacking his wife in January but moved back in, before committing the assault on their children.
He is also accused of using a metal saucepan to hit his wife in the face on the same day.
