PHOTOS: The Wells of Moses in Egypt as mentioned in the Quran

Published: Updated:

Mentioned twice in the Quran in both Surah Al Baqarah and Surah Al A’raf, the wells of Moses - it is believed - were created by God for the Prophet and the Israelites to quench their thirst.

Egyptian history studies expert, Abdel Rehim Rayhan told Al Arabiya that the wells lie close to the road, used by travelers from Cairo to the Sinai Peninsula.

During their exodus from Egypt, it is believed Prophet Moses and the Israelites made the journey from Marah to Elim, where they found 12 springs and 70 palm trees, where they set up camp.

The springs were divided between the Israelite tribes to prevent a water shortage after the tribes’ long journey across the barren lands.
