A man had a miraculously lucky escape after a runaway tire smashed into the back of his head, knocking him face first onto the hard road surface.
Amazingly, 50-year-old Roberto Carlos Fernandes survived the freak accident suffering a fractured chest and skull.
According to the Daily Mail Online he was walking with his wife in Ipatinga, Brazil, when the incident happened. In the CCTV footage the couple can be seen walking along the street, when a stray wheel bounces towards him from a nearby road.
Apparently the wheel had fallen off a vehicle and had bounced across several lanes of traffic before knocking him to the ground.
The footage was posted online by local journalist Gil Souza who told the Daily Mail that initially Fernandes was taken to hospital, but was now “stable and 'feeling much better”.
Witnesses told the journalist that the wheel had come off a trailer in the freak accident.
Police investigating the incident say they are clueless as to which vehicle the wheel came from. Fernandes is being treated for his injuries but is out of intensive care and is now believed to be out of danger.
