An Egyptian school principal has been suspended after a viral video showed him dancing with students in the school’s courtyard to the tunes of “Maharaganat,” Egypt's popular electro music genre.
The principal of Hadaek Al Maadi National Schools, Ashraf Qandeel, was seen dancing among his students during a celebration held on Mother’s Day.
He also came under fire for putting up ads for a margarine company on the walls of the school’s courtyard.
Reacting to the video, an education ministry official announced Sunday that Qandeel had been suspended until investigations were complete.
Qandeel responded to some of his critics by saying “students wanted to rejoice,” noting that the celebration came after midterms ended on Wednesday.
