Dubai has confirmed the opening of a night-swimming 'smart' beach in Dubai allowing swimmers to swim till midnight.

The beach is said to provide 'smart’ poles, ‘smart’ changing rooms and ‘smart’ palms that provide free Wi-Fi service, and is located at Umm Suqeim 1 Beach, one kilometer away from Burj Al Arab.

According to Gulf News, the idea of a night-swimming beach had previously been rejected by the Dubai Municipality and the Dubai police due to safety concerns.

But the government said it ensures the safety of the new night-swimming beach with lifeguards that will be working till midnight, and the installation of two 12-meter “Smart Poles” which provide enough visibility for the swimmers through high-intensity lighting.

“This is going to boost Dubai’s image as a tourist destination,” Hussain Nasser Lootah, the director-general of Dubai Municipality, told Gulf News.

Invitations for the launch of the night-swimming beach will be sent out to residents on its social media pages.
