WATCH: Video shows one of ‘Saleh’s last appearances’ outside his Sanaa house
While the details of the death of former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh remain vague, a video of the president is being shared on social media purporting to show him outside his home before he was killed by the Houthi militias.
Saleh appeared in the video next to a number of his General People’s Congress (GPC) Party leaders, including Yasser al-Awadhi and Aref al-Zuka, as well as his nephew Tarek Saleh at his home in the Hadda district in Sanaa.
Commenting on the clip, many Yemeni observers say it was filmed at the start of the clashes between Saleh loyalists and the Houthis on Sunday, after Saleh switched sides and called for an uprising against the militia.
In the video, the sound of gunfire can be heard as Saleh is seen telling Awadi and Zucca: “Do not be afraid.”
Saleh was killed on Monday and the details of his death remain disputed. While Yemeni media and GPC leaders say that Saleh was killed by a sniper while driving with a number of his aides to Sanhan, south of Sanaa, his son Ahmed said that he was killed in his home during clashes with the Houthi militiamen.
