Man jailed in Dubai for attacking boss ‘with sticks’ over a salary deduction
A Bangladeshi construction site worker was sentenced to three months in jail in Dubai for attacking his boss with sticks after getting a three-day deduction in his salary.
The 35-year-old was accused by his supervisor of abruptly leaving his work on a construction site in Business Bay without permission on January 28, 2017.
According to the Khaleej Times, this prompted the victim to file a report against the worker.
“Around 10:30am on January 30, 2017, I was surprised by the worker approaching me, holding a stick. He first hit me hard on my leg and then on my back. I hurt my hand while trying to protect myself from his blows,” the supervisor told the prosecutor, the Khaleej Times reported.
The Bangladeshi man learned of the salary cut two days later, and attacked the supervisor with a stick he found on the site, hitting him on the leg, back and right arm, the newspaper reported. Another worker intervened to break up the brawl.
According to the newspaper, a medical report shows that the victim is in pain and facing difficulty in moving his fingers. The court ruling remains subject to be appealed, and the worker is set to be deported after his jail term ends.
