Photos of a 15-year-old Egyptian girl who wears the hijab in gymnastics poses that were shot in Egypt’s streets, in the metro station and in the metro have sparked controversy.
Malak al-Naghi, who is in the third preparatory year in Al-Azhar and who plays gymnastics, was encouraged by her family to take these photos to confirm the idea that sports is an art and a message that must be presented to others correctly, Twitter users who know her and the photographer who took the photos said.
Several people were impressed by her skills and encouraged her while many others criticized the photos which was were spontaneously shot.
Malak eventually deleted some photos because some deemed them inappropriate because she wears the hijab and she refused to reply to followers on social media platforms or to speak to media outlets which reached out to her.
