WATCH: US consul in Saudi Arabia joins Eid al-Adha celebrations at cattle market
The consul general at the US embassy in Saudi Arabia Rachna Korhonen visited the cattle market in Dhahran east of the kingdom to buy a sheep for slaughter marking Eid al-Adha, and to join residents in celebrating the Muslim holiday.
A video surfaced on social media showing Korhonen standing in front of a group of sheep at the market, saying that this year the consulate was participating in the tradition, and buying a sheep whose meat would be given to the consulate’s staff.
Korhonen speaks fluent Arabic and is known for making an effort to join community events and celebrations, participating Saudis in several cultural and traditional activities throughout the year.
Her most recent visit was to a cultural club in al-Hasa wearing the traditional bisht which is considered a symbol of local craftsmanship in clothing that the historic Hasa region is known for.
