A flight en route to New Delhi made an emergency landing in the city of Varnasi in India when a Thai national died mid-flight after suffering a major heart attack, according to Khaleej Times.
The deceased, 53-year-old Atabot Thngcusorn, was part of a 22-member Thai family onboard a Spice Jet flight that took off from Bangkok with 189 passengers.
The aircraft’s crew reported the heart attack to the authorities at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport and said they would have to make an emergency landing.
Once the plane landed, the passenger was transported to a nearby medical facility where he was pronounced dead.
Airport Director Anil Kumar Rai told Khaleej Times the deceased was accompanied by his wife, sister and seven other family members.
The Thai Embassy was notified of the incident.
