According to the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, the city has one of the highest vehicle densities in the world, with one car for every two residents.
Although public transport in Dubai has become easily accessible and figures show an increase in their ridership, the numbers of cars in the city is increasing, according to a Khaleej Times report.
Official figures show that there are 540 cars per 1,000 Dubai residents, a stark difference from cities like New York with 305 vehicles, London with 213, Singapore with 101, and Hong Kong with 63 vehicles per 1,000 residents.
The newspaper reported that while the numbers of cars in Dubai in 2006 was around 740,000, this doubled to 1.4 million at the end of 2014.
The rising number of cars have affected Dubai’s growing traffic problems as the large numbers of commuters come into the city every day.
