A Saudi father showed the true meaning of sacrifice and compassion after losing his life while rescuing his 14-year-old daughter and granddaughter from drowning in a chalet in the kingdom’s Jazan region.

Ahmed Ali Jubran Shraheli, who suffered a heart attack after the rescue, died on Saturday.

His cousin Mohamed Shraheli, told Al-Arabiya English that the incident happened during their family vacation.

“Ahmed is the Sheikh of the Al Harisi Tribe. He went on vacation with his family in one of the chalets in Jazan last Thursday. On the day, he sat by the pool, watching his children swimming. Suddenly, his daughter and granddaughter were drowning in the deep pool. While they were trying to get out, Ahmed got into the pool and managed to rescue them,” Shraheli said.

“After getting out of the pool, his heart was affected as he was suffering from heart problems. Due to the effort he exerted during the rescue, he suffered from suffocation and pain in the chest. He was taken immediately to the hospital, but his heart stopped beating several times and his brain was affected. He underwent a pulmonary resuscitation operation. Then he was transferred to another hospital under intensive care, until he died yesterday,” Mohamed added.

“We are bearing the pain. Thank God his family is strong and believes in God’s will.”

Mansour Shraheli, his son, talked shortly with Al Arabiya Englsih saying: “My father was known for his charity and people love him because of his good reputation everywhere and for his charity work. My father will be buried tomorrow, Monday east of Jazan.”
