Coronavirus: London underground crowded despite ‘keep your distance’ warnings

While much of Britain awoke to a virtual lockdown on Tuesday after Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered people to stay at home, commuters were still crammed into the London underground system.

Video shot in the morning rush hour on the Central Line in Stratford, to the east of the capital, showed travelers standing shoulder to shoulder despite Johnson's instructions to 'social distance' by staying two meters apart.

On Monday, Johnson ordered shops to close and an end to all social gatherings to halt the spread of coronavirus.

The unprecedented peacetime restrictions, which will last for at least three weeks, were brought in to prevent the state-run National Health Service (NHS) from being overwhelmed as the number of deaths in Britain rose to 335.
