Hosni Mubarak supporters cheered and chanted in support of the ousted leader who waved down at them from a window of the high-security hospital where he is being held during his ongoing trial.
Al Arabiya obtained exclusive footage of the rare moment.
“We love you Mr. President. We love you Mr. President,” the crowd shouted, as the 85-year-old waved his hand from the bedroom window of the military hospital where he is being held.
“Long Live Hosni Mubarak, … Hosni Mubarak, Hosni Mubarak,” one devotee, who had climbed the hospital gate, chanted.
The enthusiastic crowd had gathered outside the hospital to support Mubarak on the anniversary of Israel’s withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula, which Mubarak is credited for.
Mubarak, who stepped down as president in February 2011, stands accused by the state of seizing and facilitating the seizure of more than $14.37 million originally allocated for presidential palaces. Mubarak denies the charge of stealing public funds.
