General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt explained his company’s latest digital industrial partnerships in Saudi Arabia in line with initiatives supporting the country’s economic 2030 Vision.
During an interview with Al Arabiya, Immelt said that digital transformation includes a deal to develop digital management systems for the state oil company Saudi Aramco and Saudi Telecom Company, which he described as the biggest consumers in this field.
Commenting on Vision 2030, Immelt said it has become clearer now, adding that the vision depends on education and creating ‘valuable jobs’ and that for the leadership to achieve its goals, a software community must be growing in Saudi Arabia.
Immelt also brushed off worries the recent passing of the JASTA bill allowing US citizens to sue Saudi Arabia for the terrorist 9/11 attacks might affect the company's commitment to the kingdom.
GE has been operating in Saudi Arabia for more than 80 years.
