CNN reporter detained by Turkish police live on air

Published: Updated:

CNN correspondent Ivan Watson was on Saturday detained by plainclothes police in Turkey during a live broadcast on the first anniversary of mass protests in Istanbul.

The correspondent was seen being manhandled by officers and complained that he was kicked in the back. Watson showed the officers his press card but they demanded to see his passport as well.

Officers also broke the microphone off the camera, which was still rolling when Watson was detained, CNN reported. Watson was escorted into custody but not arrested, and police later apologized for the inconvenience, according to media reports.
