Obama’s military decision over Iraq could differ from Syria, analyst says

Published: Updated:

President Barack Obama announced Friday that he would not send troops to Iraq but has asked his national security advisers to consider other options.

While the U.S. president’s bid last year to step up action in Syria was widely objected to by American people, the situation in Iraq could be different.

However, there are not any popular movements yet demanding a military intervention in Iraq, said Hisham Melhem, a researcher in U.S. affairs and the bureau chief of Al Arabiya News Channel in Washington DC.
