Video shows convoy of Deir al-Zour tribesmen volunteering against ISIS

Published: Updated:

A recently released video shows a convoy of hundreds of tribesmen from the eastern province of Deir al-Zour in a mission to quell radical Islamist fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Sources told Al Arabiya News Channel on Saturday that the tribesmen and members of the Free Syrian Army succeeded in expelling ISIS members from the eastern city of al-Bukamal near the border with Iraq.

In the video, a man who was commentating said the “Eastern Lions” vowed to guard their weapons.

Earlier this week, ISIS fighters appeared to be consolidating their hold over al-Bukamal when the local leader of the rival Nusra Front, al-Qaeda's official branch in Syria, pledged allegiance to them, Reuters news agency reported.
