Watch Neymar’s tearful video after World Cup injury

Published: Updated:

Brazilian football star Neymar fought back tears as he sent an emotional video message to his supporters after his back injury and insisted Brazil can still lift the trophy in his absence.

“It is hard to express my thoughts in words. I would like to thank you for your support and affection expressed through the messages that have been sent to me,” Neymar said in the video released by the Brazilian football confederation on Saturday.

“My dream has not ended yet, it was suspended due to a move, but it is still alive. I am sure my partners will make sure I can achieve my dream, which is to be a champion,” he added.

The 22-year-old striker, the one with the hopes of a nation on his shoulders, was ruled out of the rest of the World Cup after fracturing his third vertebrae during Brazil’s game against Columbia.

The short footage was filmed 24-hours after Brazil’s 2-1 quarter-final victory.
