The Saudi civil defense team was successful in putting out fire inside a project aimed to expand the area around the two Mosques - considered some of the holiest sites in Islam - in Makkah on Thursday.
Spokesman for the civil defense Saleh al-Alyani said fire fighters with their water hoses surrounded the area and put out the fire.
The Red Crescent said 11 people were injured.
