A clip uploaded on video sharing site YouTube shows a teen Russian hockey player attacking a rival with her hockey stick.

The pair were competing in the Under 16 World Selects Invitational in Budapest, Hungary, when the incident occurred.

The attack – from Svetlana Starovoytova of Russia’s Spartak team - was so forceful that the hockey stick snapped.

Starovoytova was subsequently suspended from the tournament, while West Coast Selects defender Hannah Bates was unharmed.

Since being uploaded last week, the video has garnered over 350,000 views.
