Wrong number: Egypt state TV mistakes random man for news correspondent

Published: Updated:

Egypt’s state TV news bulletin viewers witnessed an embarrassing situation on air when the anchor asked a wrong man about an incident covered in the bulletin, assuming he was a correspondent.

“Ashraf what is going on at the scene and what’s the latest toll?” the anchor asked during the phone interview.

After a short pause, the presenter asked the question again.

“I honestly don’t know anything,” the man on the line answered.

The anchor tried to keep a straight face on and asked, “you don’t know anything?... Is this Ashraf Abbas, state TV correspondent?”

“No,” the man answered.

The presenter took another long pause before admitting that “there must be a mistake in the call.”
