Anti-ISIS U.S. envoy: Russian strikes increase violence in Syria

Gen. John Allen, head of the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS, denounced Moscow’s operation in Syria, saying Russia intervention in Syria has “increased the violence pace,” in an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya News Channel.

Gen. Allen also reiterated Washington’s stance when he said Russians are not attacking ISIS but “targeting the Syrian opposition.

Allen made his remarks after he met with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Tuesday in the Emirati capital.

Allen told Al Arabiya News that his visit to the region was to provide its leaders an evaluation of the coalition’s in its fight “against terrorism.

He said: “We are working to implement a diplomatic and political path to achieve a solution in Syria and by its end [Syrian President Bashar] Assad must leave.”
