Saudi divorced women and widows to get greater legal powers

Published: Updated:

The Interior Ministry, represented by the Civil Status Agency, according to Al-Riyadh newspaper, will enact a law in the coming days.

This law allows divorced women and widows to issue a family register or what is known as a family identification card. Separate from the one the head of the family has, even if children are from more than a father in order to preserve women’s rights and empower them to complete their legal and governmental procedures smoothly and easily and to avoid being subject to abuse and injustice by their husbands. The system also allowed the man, who is married to more than one wife, to issue one to four family registers at the same time, according to the number of his wives; which ensures that each wife and her children are independent.
