Obama's motorcade skating on icy roads

Published: Updated:

U.S President Barack Obama, returning to Joint Base Andrews Wednesday after a day trip to Detroit, was forced to abandon his plans to return to the White House by helicopter, instead taking a motorcade for the 15- to 20-mile trip from the Maryland military base to 1600Pennsylvania Avenue.

But the trek was unusually slow, with the motorcade "stopping at most stoplights and easing its way through slow and crowded traffic, often employing sirens and flashing lights," according to Reuters White House correspondent Jeff Mason, who accompanied the motorcade back to the White House.
