International demand for US weapons systems is expected to continue growing in coming years, a senior US Air Force official has said, citing strong interest in unmanned systems, munitions and fighter jets.

"The appetite just keeps getting bigger and bigger," US Air Force Deputy Undersecretary Heidi Grant told Reuters in an interview on the eve of the Farnborough International Airshow.

US arms sales approved by the Pentagon's Defence Security Cooperation Agency rose 36 per cent to $US46.6 billion ($A61.54 billion) in the fiscal year ended September 30, 2015, and are likely to remain strong this year, Grant said.
