Surviving coronavirus: I ‘couldn’t catch my breath,’ says New Yorker

When he started exhibiting COVID-19-like symptoms, Kevin McGann decided to “stay home and ride it out” at his Manhattan apartment, keeping in mind New York City’s shortage of tests and protective gear for health workers. But after experiencing coughing fits and trouble breathing, he was forced to go to the hospital where an x-ray showed walking pneumonia in his left lung. He talks of the fear going through his mind that night, and of the difficulty of not being able to get tested.
