Kuwait tells Iraq some attacks on Gulf country originated from its territories

Kuwait presented Iraq with information that some of the attacks targeting the Gulf country were launched from its territory, the Iraqi foreign ministry said on Monday.

The information was relayed to Iraq through Kuwait’s envoy in the country on Sunday, the ministry said in its statement.

The ambassador expressed Kuwait’s concerns regarding the attacks it is facing from Iran and “presented information about strikes originating from Iraqi territories, calling on the Iraqi government to intervene to put an end to these attacks” in a manner that preserves the brotherly relations between both countries.

For its part, the Iraqi foreign ministry said that the government is “exerting significant and exceptional efforts to spare Iraq from the repercussions of the war and to work to preserve the country’s security and stability in the face of the aggression that Iraq is facing like other countries in the region.”

The ministry added that Iraq rejects using its land as a launching pad for attacks against neighboring countries, noting that the government is taking all necessary measures “to pursue those responsible for any actions that harm the country’s interests and its relations with neighboring states.”

Gulf countries have borne much of Tehran’s response after the United States and Israel launched a massive aerial campaign against Iran on February 28.

Iraq, which has recently regained a sense of stability but has long been a proxy battleground between the US and Iran, had said it did not want to be dragged into the war. But it has not been spared.

Several Iran-backed armed groups claim daily drone attacks on US bases.
