Yemen MPs reject Houthi constitutional decrees

Yemeni lawmakers also called for an emergency meeting to discuss the situation

Yemen’s major parliamentary blocs announced on Tuesday their rejection to the so-called constitutional declaration made by the Shiite Houthi group last Friday, Al Arabiya News channel reported.

Yemeni parliamentarians said the Houthi’s move further deepens the chaos in Yemen.

“The Houthi declaration enacts the separation and isolation of Yemen,” the parliamentary blocs said, adding that a national consensus was the only way to resolve the crisis.

The Yemeni lawmakers also called for an emergency meeting to discuss the current situation.

Houthis issued a constitutional declaration on Friday to seize power in Yemen by dissolving the Parliament and forming a new government, in a televised statement aired from the Republican Palace in the capital Sanaa.
