Heavy rains flooded Egypt’s Red Sea governorate, cutting power supply and disrupting road traffic

Heavy rains on Thursday flooded Egypt’s Red Sea governorate, cutting power supply and disrupting road traffic on routes linking to cities in Upper Egypt.

The beach resort town of Hurghada witnessed heavy rains in the early hours of the day, causing floods throughout the city.

Other Red Sea towns such as Safaga and Marsa Alam have been also swept with rain, cutting off road links to the Upper Egypt city of Qena.

A drop in temperatures will remain, the Meteorological Authority said, warning of heavy rains across the country's different regions that will continue until next Saturday.
