US issues new Iran-related sanctions on one individual, one group
The United States has issued new Iran-related sanctions on one individual and one group, according to the US treasury department website.
The new US sanctions targets the Shahid Meisami Group, linking it to the Iranian Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, as well as an individual, according to the US Treasury Department's website.

“Iran’s development of weapons of mass destruction is a threat to the security of its neighbors and the world,” said Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin in a statement.
“The United States will continue to counter any efforts by the Iranian regime to develop chemical weapons that may be used by the regime or its proxy groups to advance their malign agenda.”
According to the Treasury Department, the Shahid Meisami Group is an organization subordinate to Iranian Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, also known as SPND. It has been responsible for numerous SPND projects, the cost of which totaled in the millions of US dollars, including the testing and producing chemical agents and optimizing them for effectiveness and toxicity for use as incapacitation agents.
