Iran’s Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Sunday that his country’s delegation raised “forward-looking” initiatives during negotiations in Pakistan’s Islamabad, but the US failed to gain the trust of the delegation in the talks.

“The US has understood Iran’s logic and principles and it’s time for them to decide whether they can earn our trust or not,” Ghalibaf, who was among Iran’s negotiating team, said in a post on X.

Ghalibaf’s post came after lengthy talks that were held between US and Iran in Pakistan.

The Iranian official led his country’s delegation to the talks, while the US delegation was led by Vice President JD Vance and included special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

The opposing sides failed to reach an agreement to end their war despite marathon talks that concluded on Sunday in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, jeopardizing a fragile ceasefire.

Each side blamed the other for the failure of the 21-hour negotiations to end fighting that has killed thousands and sent global oil prices soaring since it began over six weeks ago.
