Saudi Arabia welcomes formation of new government in Syria

On Sunday, Saudi Arabia welcomed the formation of a new Syrian government, underscoring that it looks forward to cooperating with the new cabinet, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Kingdom, according to the statement, also expressed hope that the newly announced government “will fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people.”

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced a transitional government on Saturday, appointing 23 ministers in an expanded cabinet seen as a key milestone in the transition from decades of the al-Assad family rule.

“The ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s aspiration to cooperate and work with the new Syrian government in a manner that embodies the fraternal and historical relations between the two countries and strengthens relations in all fields,” the Saudi foreign ministry statement said, adding that the Kingdom wishes the new government success in “achieving security, stability, and prosperity for Syria.”
