NGO trains Syrian rebels on international humanitarian law
International non-governmental organization Geneva Call is holding training sessions and workshops in Turkey to teach Syrian opposition fighters about international humanitarian law.
The campaign aims to introduce the Free Syrian Army to laws pertaining to war and the protection of civilians, as well as teach them how to deal with medical teams and provide safety for them on the battlefield.
More than 70,000 people have been killed in the revolt against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, which began as peaceful protests but has degenerated into civil war.
The United Nations says both the regime and the rebels have committed human rights violations, though it has documented more abuses by Assad’s forces.
