Qatar's imports from Saudi, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt worth 18 billion riyals in 2016
The value of Qatar's imports from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt during the last year 2016 amounted to about 18 billion Qatari riyals. This constitutes about 85% of Qatar’s total imports from the Arab countries, accounting for about 15% of its total global import.
An analysis published on Al Eqtisadiah newspaper predicts that inflation in Qatar will rise significantly due to the closure of the only land route by Saudi Arabia, as well as the shutdown of airways and waterways by Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt.
The analysis attributed this to the fact that Doha had to move to alternative markets to meet the shortage of imports by the four countries.
This will increase the cost of imports, which will be reflected in inflation rising significantly, especially for foreigners working in Qatar, whose wages are lower than the wages of Qataris.
85% of the population in Qatar are expats out of about 2.6 million people will suffer under this inflation.
Qatar's exports to the four countries of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt during 2016 amounted to about QR 20.4 billion, accounting for about 83% of Qatar's total exports to Arab countries, plus about 10% of Qatar's international exports during 2016.
