WATCH: The world celebrates the arrival of 2019
Fireworks lit up the skies over Auckland as New Zealand became one of the first countries to welcome the New Year.
As the clock struck midnight (1100GMT), colorful fireworks burst from the top of the Auckland Sky Tower.
The display was accompanied for the first time by a complimentary light show on Auckland Harbour Bridge.
Australians ushered in the new year with a spectacular fireworks display over Sydney Harbour.
Police estimated that more than a million people would crowd the harbour to view the glittering fireworks.
North Korea celebrated the New Year with a major concert and fireworks on Tuesday (January 1) in central Pyongyang.
