Coronavirus: Muslim Brotherhood activist calls on Egyptians to infect officials

New York-based Muslim Brotherhood activist Bahgat Saber has called for Egyptians to intentionally infect government officials and state employees with the coronavirus, according to statements he made during a live session on his Facebook page.

“If you are a soldier, you can go into the defense ministry, and shake hands with all the generals of the military and the police. The same is true with the justice system,” Saber, who has 143,195 followers on Facebook, said in the March 1 Facebook live session.

“If you have contracted coronavirus, you should exact revenge! Avenge yourself, avenge the honor of your women, avenge the people who are in prison, and avenge the oppressed people. Go there. Why die alone? When you die, why die alone?” Saber added.

Clips of Saber’s statements caused controversy on social media with many asking for the US government to take action against the activist.

“There are so many other Egyptian MB activists in West that have been doing similar stuff and engaging in incitement to violence it is striking how limited government and scholarly attention has been given to them,” Samuel Tadros, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, tweeted.

“This NY-based citizen has been using social media to encourage violent actions against Jews, Christians, gays and other minority groups in Egypt,” Wael Ghonim, an activist who led a Facebook page that helped ignite the 2011 Egyptian uprising, tweeted.
