Pizza Hut in Saudi Arabia yanks ad after ‘insulting’ people who stutter

Pizza Hut sparked Saudi anger after they published an ad deemed disrespectful for mocking people who stutter.

The ad published on Sunday by Pizza Hut on its Twitter account was shortly yanked by the company that apologized for the blunder amid people’s demands to boycott the food chain.

The ad, posted on the same day as International Stuttering Awareness Day, promoted the chain’s pizzas and repeated letters to make it look like someone who stutters is reading.

The Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Investment said it will summon the company and take the necessary measures against it.

Pizza Hut deleted the ad following users’ backlash and apologized for the “irresponsible” tweet, adding that it will take measures against those who committed this mistake. It also posted another tweet saying it will communicate with stuttering organizations to support them and sponsor them.

Meanwhile, Saudis launched a campaign calling to boycott Pizza Hut. The hashtag “I_boycott_PizzaHut” was the most trending in the kingdom as users slammed the chain for its insulting behavior and said they will not buy its products.
