Prominent Syrian singer George Wassouf pays a visit to the Damascus residence of President Bashar al-Assad in a show of support for the Syrian leader

George Wassouf, a prominent Syrian singer, paid a visit to the Damascus residence of President Bashar al-Assad in a show of support for the embattled leader, according to media reports.

In a photo that was published by media outlets Friday, Wassouf is seen shaking hands with Assad as well as laughing and chatting.

Wadih Wassouf, the singer’s son, is also seen in the photo standing between the two.

Wassouf, who has been out of the spotlight for several years due to health reasons, is a vocal supporter of the Damascus regime, which reportedly paid for his medical expenses.

In an interview earlier this month, Wassouf described the Syrian president, who has been accused by the Syrian opposition of committing war crimes, as a “goodhearted man.”

Wassouf, 52, was seen earlier this month casting his ballot in the Syrian presidential polls, which Western countries and the opposition dismissed as a sham.
