Psychologically disturbed mother kills her sleeping daughters in Lebanon
A psychologically disturbed mother of two in Lebanon has killed her daughters while they were asleep at their home in Machta Hammoud north of the country.
The victims, Aisha and Sarah, nine and six years-old respectively, had their throats slit by their mother using a kitchen knife while they slept.
While the elder sister died on the spot, Sarah sustained a critical injury on her neck but was immediately transported to the hospital. Doctors said that the six-year-old is now in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the mother Roqayya al-Assaf, who is in her 20s, said that after committing the crime she made her way to the nearest Lebanese army checkpoint to surrender – admitting that she slaughtered her two daughters.
Sources claim that the mother suffers from psychological and sociological disturbances and she is currently receiving the necessary treatment for it.
It was also reported that nearly a year ago, the mother attempted to commit suicide and kill her daughters in the same manner, but failed to do so.
Residents of the village who knew Assaf testified that she is a loving a caring mother to her daughters. They also said that the family did not suffer from any financial difficulties.
However Assaf’s mental condition is what pushed her to attempt suicide and later led to the killing of her daughters.
