IAEA inspections set to resume in Iran; can a nuclear deal hold?
In this edition of Global News Today on Al Arabiya English, host Tom Burges Watson examines the latest developments in efforts to prevent a new nuclear crisis in the Middle East.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi has confirmed that inspectors are expected to return to Iran under the framework of the preliminary agreement reached between Tehran and Washington. The arrangement reportedly includes provisions for the dilution of Iran's highly enriched uranium under IAEA supervision, with discussions continuing over inspection procedures, access, and implementation timelines.
However, significant questions remain. Iranian officials have indicated that inspections of damaged nuclear facilities and sensitive nuclear material will only be addressed as part of a final agreement with the United States, raising uncertainty about the scope of future monitoring.
What does the return of inspectors mean for Iran's nuclear program? Can verification measures rebuild confidence between the parties? And how close are Washington and Tehran to securing a comprehensive agreement?
Tom Burges Watson is joined by Laura Rockwood, a former senior official at the International Atomic Energy Agency, for expert analysis on nuclear verification, inspection challenges, and the prospects for a lasting US-Iran agreement.
