Republican strategist says US-Iran MoU is destined to fail

On today’s edition of W News on Al Arabiya English with Leigh-Ann Gerrans, Republican Strategist Adolfo Franco discussed growing divisions within the Republican Party after the Republican-controlled US Senate approved a measure calling on President Donald Trump to halt military action against Iran or seek congressional approval before continuing.

The vote comes as some Republicans express skepticism about the peace plan agreed between Washington and Tehran, despite the resolution being largely symbolic and carrying no force of law.

We also examined developments on the Israel-Lebanon border with Lianne Pollak-David, International Strategy Advisor and Co-Founder of the Israeli Coalition for Regional Security, and Ibrahim Chahine, Lebanese Political Analyst and Legal Affairs Researcher. The discussion followed comments by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz that Israeli forces will not withdraw from southern Lebanon, as Israeli and Lebanese officials hold talks in Washington on a US-backed proposal that could see parts of southern Lebanese territory transferred to the Lebanese Army.

Later in the program, Ukrainian MP Lesia Vasylenko joined us to discuss Ukraine’s latest long-range drone strikes on energy infrastructure in Russian-occupied Crimea. Kyiv has intensified attacks on strategic targets as it seeks to increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and strengthen its position in the conflict.
